How Long Does a Made-to-Order Dress Actually Take?
A made-to-order garment typically takes 10 to 15 days to produce, plus 3 to 7 days for international shipping — so plan for three to four weeks from order to delivery. Made-to-measure pieces and heavily hand-embroidered formals sit at the longer end. The garment does not exist when you place the order; it is cut and sewn afterwards, which is the entire point of the model and the reason nothing is ever discounted into a landfill.
What actually happens during those days?
The wait is not queueing. Each stage is real work.
Days 1–2: Confirmation and pattern. Your order is reviewed, measurements checked for internal consistency, and the pattern drafted or adjusted. On made-to-measure orders, this is where an atelier will come back to you if a number looks inconsistent — which is a good sign, not a delay.
Days 2–3: Fabric cutting. Fabric is pulled, laid, and cut to your pattern. Silk and organza are cut single-layer and by hand, which is slower than machine-cutting stacked cotton.
Days 3–10: Embroidery. The longest stage on any embellished piece, and the one that varies most. A lightly embroidered neckline may take a day. A hand-worked panel across a bodice and sleeves can take a week, because a person is doing it with a needle.
Days 10–13: Construction and finishing. Assembly, lining, hems, closures, pressing.
Days 13–15: Quality check and dispatch. Inspection, final press, packing.
